Clerkenwell Historic Trail.

One of the best walks in the borough is the Clerkenwell Historic Trail.
The walk was launched in March 1998, based on the same idea as the Boston Freedom Trail in the USA.

The two-mile walk around this fascinating part of Islington takes in the medieval priory of St John and its northern neighbour, the nunnery of St Mary.

Farringdon Road lies above the Old Fleet River and nearby St John Street was once the ancient drovers' route down to Smithfield Market, on Clerkenwell's southern border.

You can navigate the walk yourself, or take a guided tour.

The Islington Society have produced six informative leaflets, showing some interesting walks that take in historical highlights of the borough.
